Golf supplies, such as golf clubs, golf balls and golf bags, not to mention, golf accessories, good golf sun glasses, tees, towels and shoes are important to your personal game. At least it is for me. My dad introduced me to the game of golf after I broke my wrist when I was 8 years old. He thought swinging a golf club would be good exercise. Never let it be said that an injury is a handicap. For me, it put me on a path that I continue to travel today.
That translates into more than 40 years driving, putting and chipping my way to a little hole in the ground with a challenge that only I can meet. I was a military brat, so I have played on courses around the world, but I now confine my game to golf courses in Texas.
What I like most about playing golf is the enjoyment I get from overcoming the course obsticals. But there are health and fitness benefits, too. Golf teaches sportsmanship and integrity more than any other sport. The exception to this is possibly the clothes I might wear to the driving range when I practice. Comfortable. Casual. Suits the weather.
Golf tournaments test my concentration and are very helpful in determining my focus and commitment. Although I've made a couple of embarrassing drives, for the most part, my game improves and returns a great deal of satisfaction.
My game has improved - but it has been a slow endeavor - as I work full time and practice is limited. My practice schedule includes improving my golf swing for more distance, which means checking my golf stance and working on my golf mental game, as well as keeping my clubs, including my golf woods and metals, and the grips, in good condition. When and how I work on my game comes later.
For now, I plan to provide my experience of the golf courses I play in North Texas, including tips I successfully used for improving my own game, and the secret to keeping in shape.
Golf courses I want to play some day include Pebble Beach, St. Andrews, PineHurst#2, Beth Page Black, Agusta - but I'd need more than time and money - I have to be invited. Still working on that.
